Water Distribution Overview
The Water Division is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the water distribution system. It is responsible for maintaining water mains, fire hydrants and the property owners' water service line from the water main to the right-of-way and the water meters.
There are approximately 90 miles of water mains in Bowling Green ranging in size from 6 inches to 36 inches. There are approximately 9,000 water meters for metering residential and commercial water use. The water meters range in size from 0.625 inches to 10 inches. An Itron System is used to radio read the water meters. Readers use a hand-held unit to read these meters.
